Last weeks whether was a bit of a headache with bands of rain crossing the North of England by Wednesday marking Thursday for a Saturday lib looked a non-runner with rain across much of the country, Sunday looked an improved day in the south but Berwick still looked a bit of a gamble so the decision was taken to mark Saturday for a Sunday race from Wetherby.
Saturday marking always reduce birdage along with the uncertain forecast and a miserable marking night 655 birds from 53 members could be seen as a good turn out
Sunday morning brought cloudless skies to Wetherby and the birds were up and away at 6.00 Colin Seago has a clear winner on 1709 at Lowestoft, Kessingland winner Martin Fuller takes 2nd place 1648 Bobby Saunders back at Ness Point is 3rd 1560 Alan Wragg having one of his best seasons is Flegg winner on 1549 Franni Peruzzi wins Norfolk Inv and knocks out club mate to reach K.O. final where he will meeting David Hicks who pushes Roger Dawbarn out with two in top 20 but not good enough to beat Mary Becker who wins Horsford in 8th place 1541. Returns were good but a little erratic.
As the day turned out a Berwick lib would have been possible what the birdage would have been or how the race would have panned out we will never know.
As we enter the last races of the old bird season it’s a ding dong battle in the League with David Hicks and Woods & Batch for the Premiership Title Mary Becker and Franni Peruzzi are close behind in 3rd & 4th place Roger Dawbarn leads the Championship with Steve Howells and K Nixon close on his tail, Micheal Webb is a clear leader of League 1 with Anthony Fiorentini and Neil Hayne leading the chasing pack with 3 long races to come and young birds its all to play for.
This week it's Bubwith which looks like improved weather for Saturday in the south and East N.R.C.C. Fraserburgh looks a bit more doubtful i'll put my money on Sunday race.
